FUTA School Fees (2024/2025) Academic Session

FUTA Announces New School Fees for 2023/2024 Academic Session

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has rolled out a revised fee structure for the 2023/2024 academic session. This announcement comes in response to the recent student protests that led to the indefinite suspension of academic activities.

What Led to the Change?

On January 15th, students of FUTA took to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with a significant hike in school fees. The Student Union Government (SUG) alleged that the management had increased fees to over N200,000 for incoming students and N130,000 for returning students—amounts that were a sharp increase from the previous N35,000. This protest was a key factor in the school’s decision to postpone its resumption.

In response to the students’ concerns, the management has now revised the fee structure, offering a more affordable payment plan. The new fees are as follows:

  • 100 Level Students: N159,000
  • 200 Level Students: N73,000
  • 300 Level Students: N78,500
  • 400 Level Students: N68,000
  • 500 Level Students: N73,000

Payment Structure and Conditions

To ease the financial burden on students, FUTA has introduced an option for installment payments for students in levels 200 through 500. Here’s how it works:

  1. Installment Payments: Students from 200 to 500 levels can pay their fees in two equal installments. However, first-year students and 200-level Direct Entry (DE) students must pay their fees in full at the start of the academic session.
  2. Course Registration and Accommodation: Students who opt for the installment plan must pay the first 50% before they can register for the first semester. The remaining 50% must be paid before registering for the second semester. Only students who have fully paid their fees will be allowed to apply for accommodation and complete their course registration.
  3. Accommodation Fees: These must be paid in full, with no installment options available.
  4. Credit Allocation: When a student pays the first half of their fees, half of each fee category will be credited to their account. The remaining half will be marked as outstanding debt, which must be cleared before further registration.
  5. Strict Enforcement: The university has made it clear that no student will be allowed to proceed with course registration without full payment for the semester.
