- History: The EFCC was established on December 12, 2002, under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration. It began operations on April 13, 2003, with Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as its first Executive Chairman. The EFCC was created to tackle financial crimes, influenced by international pressure to combat money laundering.
- Main Duties:
- Investigate Financial Crimes: Handle cases of fraud, money laundering, and counterfeiting.

- Stop Terrorist Funding: Track and seize assets used for terrorism.
